Volunteer New York! Offers National Day of Service and Remembrance

Andrew Barovick and Anselmo Alegria established their law firm, Alegria & Barovick LLP, in early 2013 in White Plains, New York. The firm represents clients in cases involving medical malpractice, personal injury, police brutality, and property damage. When not in the office, Andrew Barovick spends his downtime helping others and regularly volunteers with Volunteer New York!

Conceived in 1949, Volunteer New York! began when a group of volunteers wanted to match the needs of nonprofits to those interested in volunteering around the Westchester area. Formerly known as the Volunteer Center of United Way, the organization underwent a name change in 2014.

One event recently sponsored by Volunteer New York! was the 2015 National Day of Service and Remembrance, which took place September 11-13. More than 1,100 volunteers participated in receiving donations, which included more than 100 units of blood and 700 pounds of food, and in writing more than 1,000 cards to soldiers, veterans, and first-responders, thanking them for their service to the country and their communities. All told, the volunteers devoted 1,671 hours of their time to the event.
